Candidate Message: Juab County Commissioner Candidate Chris L. Memmott
Dear Juab County Friends,
I am writing this piece today to hopefully introduce myself to some who may not know me and also to share a little bit of a message from the campaign trail. So as my article title says my name is Chris Memmott and I am currently running for Juab County Commissioner. Specifically Seat A. I have had many of you ask me about two things – how does this election work and /or who am I running against and also why am I running and/or what is my platform? The election process is fairly simple in our county and state. However, it is very different than say the Nephi City election process. I will use Nephi City’s election process as an example. In short, Nephi City’s election(s) are nonpartisan. The top vote getting candidate(s) move on from the primary election to the general election. At that point it depends on how many seats are open on the council or if it’s a mayoral race year. In the most recent election (2025) the current mayor ran unopposed and (2) seats were available on the city council. So, in this election instance, the top 2 candidates in vote count were declared the winners and seated as councilmen. By contrast the county elections are partisan (Rep, Dem, or other parties). When signing up as a Republican you have a choice of running a campaign to try and win delegate support through the Juab County GOP Caucus and Convention or you can gather signatures in your own behalf to be placed on the ballot or you can do both.
I chose to do both and I guess this leads me to the second piece of my message which is why am I running. As many may have seen on social media and other outlets, I was not successful in winning the Republican nomination at the county convention. While this result was disappointing it does not deter my goal of helping Juab County in a leadership role. I know that there are many questions in all of the county’s communities about the role of the commissioners. One huge goal I would have is to create better and more productive lines of communication. This county has some really big issues to tackle in the coming years and it’s going to take people in leadership roles that can communicate and not only “talk the talk” but also “walk the walk”. I’m running because I care about this county and the people in it.
I don’t have a specific agenda for any one specific group inside or outside of the county building(s) walls. I would rather advocate for what is best for our county in every space.
The campaign trail is rocky and bumpy but filled with so many great people and great stories. I’ll leave you with a message that I recently read on one of the community social channels – It takes an equal or even lesser amount of time to be kind to someone as to be mean and vicarial. Please be courteous and kind to one another. Its easy to be mean and negative but with a touch of effort we can be kind.
I would appreciate your support in the upcoming election.

Thank You
Chris L Memmott
